For us at SnackRight, it’s not just about Snacking Right and Eating Right, but we are also all about Living Right!
Fun fact: An estimated 1.3 billion tonnes of food is wasted globally every year! That amounts to one-third of all food produced for human consumption being wasted annually. Yet, in a world where we produce enough food to feed everyone, 1 in every 9 people goes to bed on an empty stomach. That’s about 821 million people not having enough food to eat every day.
Global food wastage is a far-reaching problem that encompasses both food loss and food waste. Food loss occurs during the journey from farm to table. Food waste arises when food that is fit for consumption is thrown away. And when food that is fit for consumption is thrown away, we’re not just wasting food, but also all the resources involved in bringing that food from farm to table such as the water for crops, the land for planting, the fuel for transportation.
This is not a one-man problem and it will not be solved by one man. We all have a part to play in sustainability, and now, more than ever, we need to stand together to overcome this together, if not for ourselves, for our children and grandchildren ‒ and the generations to come.
Sustainability is something really close to our hearts here at SnackRight. So this new year, we are pledging to take small steps towards sustainability. Here’s how we are kickstarting and doing our part. At SnackRight, quality is our core value. We enforce stringent sorting and other quality control measures to ensure all nuts in our SnackRight nut range are completely whole and unbroken. Inevitably, this led to an enormous amount of perfectly fine but partially chipped or broken nuts being discarded on a regular basis ‒ nuts that we knew were too good to be wasted. This inspired us to create our cookie line.
And thus our pecan walnut cookie was born. We turn imperfectly shaped but perfectly good and healthy nuts into tasty, freshly baked, wholesome cookies. And we trust, in some small way, this will help to reduce food waste and safeguard the environment.
If everyone takes just one small step in reducing food loss or food waste, there will be almost 8 billion steps towards a sustainable future. Remember, alone, we are strong; together, we are stronger!
